Systems Change Commons is an important aspect of a four-year research program entitled "Evidence-Informed Nursing Delivery Models", spearheaded by Professor Nancy Edwards from the University of Ottawa and Doris Grinspun, Executive Director at the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario. "Evidence-Informed Nursing Delivery Models" is funded by Canadian Health Services Research Foundation.

The intent of this research program is to:

a) Highlight innovative, evidence informed nursing service delivery models that are based on clinical and organizational best practices.

b) Look at various ways of bringing these models to the attention of decision-makers.

It is critical that regional and provincial decision-makers have the evidence they need, in order to decide whether or not to incorporate these models within the health care delivery system.

Hosted twice each year, Systems Change Commons is a virtual network of senior provincial/territorial policy/decision makers such as LHIN CEOs, Principle Nursing Advisors, from different provinces. The network also includes members of the Evidence-Informed Nursing Delivery Models" research team. Systems Change Commons participants join in a teleconference to hear the presentations and join in ensuing discussions. This interchange of ideas provides an opportunity for senior policy/decision makers and researchers to share knowledge and co-learn about experiences of health systems change from decision-makers’ perspectives.
