NBPRU Membership Categories

The following is a description of the NBPRU' membership categories. Interested applicants are asked to submit an application under one of the following categories.

Individual Membership
 
1.0           Investigator/Decision-Maker Members (3 categories)
 
1.1           Senior Investigator/Decision-Maker Members
 
Eligibility Criteria
 
·         Be the principal investigator, main collaborating partner or policy advocate on externally funded research that fits with one of the NBPRU strategic goals
·         Have the training and experience to initiate, supervise and complete long-range independent research projects
·         Show evidence of scientific independence and continuing research productivity
·         Have demonstrated ability to mentor junior members and students
·         Have a graduate degree (Masters/PhD) and normally several years of experience conducting independent research
 
Responsibilities
 
Senior Investigator/Decision-Maker members will be expected to participate in two or more of the following:
 
·         Provide assistance with the development and implementation of research projects and/or the development of research tools
·         Present their research at seminar programs and scientific meetings
·         Assist with sharing information on nursing best practice guideline development, uptake and dissemination strategies at both the national and international level
·         Participate in seminar programs, scientific meetings and reviews, policy development, and/or on NBPRU working groups
·         Provide consultation services related to policy analysis and knowledge brokering
·         Be involved in knowledge translation and participate in external funding proposals
·         Assist with strategic planning, and the expansion and promotion of the NBPRU as a viable research unit at national and international levels
  
 
1.2           Associate Investigator/Decision-Maker Members
 
Eligibility
 
·         Have an interest in NBPRU strategic goals
·         Bring either direct experience in the field or other important skills to the work of NBPRU
·         Collaborate with research, policy and program initiatives related to nursing best practice guideline topics, and evidence-based nursing care in general
 
Eligible individuals may include, but are not limited to, any of following, who may have positions in government and/or with other funding agencies associated with the NBPRU:
 
·         Basic researchers and methodologists
·         Policy analysts and policy makers
·         Knowledge brokers
·         Clinicians
·         Allied health workers
 
Responsibilities
 
Associate Investigator/Decision-Maker members will be expected to participate in one or more of the following:
 
·         Participate in seminar programs, scientific meetings and reviews, policy development, and/or on NBPRU working groups
·         Assist with sharing information on nursing best practice guideline development, uptake and dissemination strategies at the local level
·         Provide input into the strategic planning process
 
1.3           Affiliate Investigator/Decision-Maker Members
 
Eligibility
 
Individuals eligible for appointment as Affiliate Investigator/Decision-Maker membership in the NBPRU will be similar to Associate Investigator members except that their involvement in NBPRU activities will be on a short-term basis and involve a lesser degree of commitment. The length of appointment will be based on a mutually agreed upon time frame with the NBPRU Co-Directors.
 
Affiliate Investigator/Decision-Maker members may include individuals currently training in an educational institution with an interest in or experience with NBPRU strategic goals, such as visiting scholars, postdoctoral students, graduate students and their mentors/supervisors. Training and supervision by Senior or Associate Investigator/ Decision-Maker members will be available.
 
Responsibilities
 
Affiliate Investigator/Decision-Maker members may be involved in more than one NBPRU research project at a time and will be expected to participate in one or more of the following:
 
·         Collaborate with one or more NBPRU research projects (either their own or other projects)
·         Engage in formal and informal research dissemination strategies, such as manuscript preparation for publication and conference presentations
 
2.0           Organizational Members
 
Eligibility
 
Organizations eligible for appointment as Organizational members will include RNAO Best Practice Spotlight Organizations, and other organizations engaged in nursing best practice guideline work with an interest in the NBPRU’s strategic goals and a willingness to commit personnel and/or in-kind resources to the development and production of research projects. Candidates for organizational membership should be participating in the implementation of RNAO BPGs and/or NBPRU projects. Candidate organizations may include but are not limited to Canadian or international health care organizations, academic institutions, community-based and/or non-governmental organizations.
 
Responsibilities
 
Organizational members will be expected to provide support to one or more NBPRU research projects through the commitment of personnel and/or in-kind resources.
 
Personnel and in-kind resources may include but are not limited to providing:
 
·         A site/location for developing and conducting research projects
·         Tools and strategies to strengthen the NBPRU research program
·         Engagement in formal and informal research dissemination strategies
·         Continued implementation and use of nursing best practice guidelines
 
Organizational members may also have representatives assist with NBPRU strategic planning, and the expansion and promotion of the NBPRU as a viable research unit. This includes having representatives participate in one or more of the following:
 
·         Research projects
·         Seminar programs
·         Scientific meetings and reviews
·         Policy and strategic planning for promoting the NBPRU at the regional level
·         NBPRU Working Groups
